Job Overview

Discovery Insure is hiring an Actuarial Manager (Product Development) for Geotab Vitality, a joint venture between global telematics company Geotab and Vitality that applies the shared-value model to commercial fleets—using Geotab telematics to measure how safely drivers drive and Vitality incentives to change behaviour, so fleets record fewer accidents, lower claims and lower operating costs.

You will be accountable for the Geotab Vitality product roadmap, delivery timelines and commercial outcomes, holding a seat at Geotab product and governance forums. The role designs and calibrates the fleet driving-behaviour score from telematics events (harsh braking, cornering, speeding, phone distraction, driving hours), quantifies the link between behaviour and claims, and prices the rewards and incentive structures so value returned is funded by risk improvement.

Based at 1 Discovery Place, Sandton. Suited to a qualified actuary (AMASSA/FASSA) with 5–8 years' experience, much of it in pricing, product development or R&D, who can bridge telematics engineering and insurance/behaviour-change cultures across markets.

Key Responsibilities

• Own the Geotab Vitality product roadmap, delivery timelines and commercial outcomes; represent the venture at Geotab product and governance forums

• Design and calibrate the fleet driving-behaviour score and underlying telematics event definitions

• Quantify the relationship between driving behaviour and claims experience; build models demonstrating accident-frequency and claims-cost reduction

• Price and cost reward and incentive structures; monitor margin, uptake and engagement against plan

• Translate behavioural science into product mechanics with the Vitality Drive behavioural science, data and rewards teams

• Build the commercial case with Geotab resellers, fleet customers and insurance partners

• Provide the analytical backbone for fleet-customer reporting and contribute to the venture's strategic agenda

• Align stakeholders across both parent organisations and manage data privacy, driver consent and multi-market regulatory considerations

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Honours degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematical Statistics or closely related discipline

• Qualified Actuary and current member of the Actuarial Society of South Africa (AMASSA or FASSA)

• 5–8 years in an actuarial role, with a substantial portion in pricing, product development or R&D

• Advanced pricing and risk modelling incl. GLMs and frequency-severity modelling for motor claims

• Programming in SQL and Python (or R); advanced Excel and strong PowerPoint

• Experience influencing senior stakeholders in a partner, JV or client organisation

• Advantageous: telematics/IoT data, behavioural economics, short-term or fleet insurance, international exposure
