Job Overview

A prominent player in the South African property development sector, represented by CA Select, is appointing a Chief Financial Officer to lead its financial operations from Stellenbosch. This is a critical executive leadership role overseeing every financial aspect of the business, from strategic capital planning and investment structuring through to safeguarding the financial health of a diverse development portfolio.

The CFO provides strategic financial analysis and sophisticated financial modelling to support property acquisitions, business expansion and capital allocation, owns budgeting and forecasting, and manages banking relationships and funding partners, including facility negotiations, debt covenants and loan applications. The role also carries accountability for statutory reporting, South African tax and regulatory compliance, the external audit and a robust internal control environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements

• Provide strategic financial analysis and insight on property development projects and investments

• Develop and manage the annual budget, track performance against forecast and recommend corrective action on variances

• Oversee cash flow and liquidity to fund day-to-day operations and project requirements

• Manage banking relationships and funding partners: negotiate facilities, manage debt covenants and oversee loan applications

• Ensure full compliance with South African financial regulations, tax law and industry-specific standards

• Coordinate the annual external audit and maintain robust internal controls

• Build sophisticated financial models to support expansion, property acquisitions and capital allocation

• Work cross-functionally to manage intercompany transactions and complex loan structures

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting; CA(SA) or equivalent professional qualification highly preferred

• Minimum 5 years’ experience in a senior financial management role

• Property development, manufacturing or retail sector experience highly advantageous

• Proven track record in budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting and project-based accounting

• Deep understanding of South African tax law and financial regulation

• Strong leadership and the ability to communicate complex financial data to non-financial stakeholders

• Strategic, results-driven mindset with high integrity and attention to detail
