Job Overview

Amazon Web Services Professional Services (ProServe) is seeking a Senior Engagement Manager in Cape Town to lead the delivery of complex cloud solution projects for South African customers. The role combines technical expertise with strong project leadership to drive successful implementations of AWS-based solutions, bridging business requirements and technical solutions and ensuring alignment with customer outcomes.

Applying AWS frameworks such as Well-Architected and the Cloud Adoption Framework, the Engagement Manager distils customer needs into clear technical requirements, decomposes complex problems, and makes informed trade-off decisions on performance, scalability, security and business impact. They execute project plans, proactively manage risks and issues, escalate appropriately and drive projects to completion while exceeding customer expectations, working with customer teams and the AWS Partner Network on enterprise cloud adoption initiatives.

The role is expected to achieve and maintain relevant AWS certifications and develop domain expertise, progressing to increasingly complex projects and cross-organisational technical strategy. AWS highlights work/life harmony, mentorship and an inclusive team culture.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage complex cloud migration and implementation projects

• Use deep knowledge of AWS services, architectures and best practices to guide technical decisions and planning

• Bridge business requirements with technical solutions and facilitate engineering discussions

• Distil customer needs into clear technical requirements mapped to business outcomes

• Decompose complex technical problems into actionable, deliverable solutions

• Apply Well-Architected and Cloud Adoption Framework; manage technical risk and trade-offs

• Execute project plans, manage risks and issues, escalate appropriately and drive delivery to completion

• Contribute to technical documentation and define documentation standards

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of cloud computing experience

• 5+ years leading multiple Agile teams (Scrum Masters, Product Owners) concurrently or at scale

• 5+ years leading and delivering enterprise-level IT engagements

• Knowledge of public cloud value proposition and IaaS/PaaS/SaaS engagement delivery

• Preferred: professional services delivery experience; PMP/APM/CSM/PMI-ACP/PRINCE2; AWS certification

• Preferred: Jira/Rally/VersionOne experience and presenting to C-level executives
