Job Overview

Absa Group is hiring a Lead Technology in Johannesburg (requisition R-15992379; full time; hybrid; posted 30 October 2026; applications close 5 November 2026). The role leads the agile solution design, deployment, ongoing optimisation and evolution of enterprise technology products and services, carrying full-stack engineering ownership and acting as the single point of partnership with the CIO and senior business product owners.

The Lead Technology defines product and technical strategy end to end, designs architecturally sound solution blueprints aligned to Group Architecture and Infrastructure standards (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS, containerisation), runs DevOps and CI/CD across squads, coaches senior developers, and owns delivery, vendor selection, commercial impact and technology risk from ideation to deployment – delivering on time and on budget.

Key Responsibilities

• Define the full-stack product and technical strategy with the CIO and business product owners and own the senior product-owner relationship

• Take one-stop-shop accountability for delivery of products and solutions – risk cannot be outsourced to vendors

• Lead design of product and service solution blueprints aligned to short-, medium- and long-term strategy and Group Architecture standards

• Lead scoping, prioritisation and integration planning across front-end, back-end and integration stakeholder groups

• Design and implement automation testing, CI/CD strategies and pipelines across squads (Kubernetes, Jenkins, TeamCity, Artifactory, New Relic, Splunk)

• Guide code quality and engineering practices across Java, Python and other languages, APIs (REST/SOAP/JSON), batch and real-time systems

• Manage the DevOps pipeline and releases for maximum customer impact and minimum business risk; own application longevity

• Resource and manage agile squads across Run and Change; partner CTO, CSO, Risk and enablement functions

• Attract, develop and retain a diverse, high-performing engineering team; coach and mentor senior developers

• Manage vendor selection and contract negotiation and apply risk and governance frameworks to technical decision-making

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology

• Senior full-stack engineering and technology leadership experience in an enterprise environment

• Expert knowledge of architecture and infrastructure – virtualisation, containerisation, automation, storage and serverless on AWS, Azure, Google and on-prem cloud

• Strong DevOps, CI/CD and automated-testing expertise

• Hands-on development background across server-side, client-side, web services and secure architectural patterns

• Fluency in agile delivery, stakeholder and vendor management
