Senior Software & Systems Architect – Industrial IoT
Job Overview
Helderberg Personnel is recruiting a Senior Software and Systems Architect for a well-established engineering company at Technopark, Stellenbosch (ref SW006667/AM; apply before 19 November 2026). The role takes technical ownership of the architecture, design, development and evolution of software platforms and supporting systems.
It is a hands-on technical leadership position focused on full-stack architecture and development – back-end services, databases, APIs, integrations, web apps and IoT telemetry platforms – plus senior ownership of ICT infrastructure, security and operational practice. Key Responsibilities
• Lead architecture and technical design of new platforms and enhancements; define service boundaries, data models and APIs
• Develop and improve back-end services, web applications, dashboards and Java/web-based apps
• Design IoT device connectivity, telemetry collection, remote monitoring and control handling intermittent connectivity
• Integrate with metering, utility and industrial systems; work with hardware and firmware engineers
• Prepare technical specifications, estimates and delivery plans; manage technical risk
• Establish development standards, code review, testing, CI/CD and controlled releases
• Own Linux servers, cloud, containers, databases, firewalls/VPNs, patching, backups and recovery
• Lead investigation of complex production incidents; mentor colleagues and engage customers on architecture
Required Qualifications
• Degree/diploma in Computer Science, Software or Electronic Engineering, IT or related (equivalent experience considered)
• 8+ years' professional software development including ownership of production applications
• Senior developer, tech lead or software architect experience
• Strong back-end skills in Java and/or Python, PHP, TypeScript or C#; modern front-end frameworks
• Strong SQL (MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL); Linux, cloud and production troubleshooting
• Industrial IoT, telemetry, MQTT, smart metering or event-driven systems advantageous
