Job Overview

Tumaini Consulting is recruiting an experienced Customs & Shipping Manager for a well-established FMCG company in Cape Town (permanent; reference NM26021900; apply before 2 January 2027). The role owns the company’s import/export shipping and customs-clearing function, ensuring goods move efficiently and in full compliance with SARS customs requirements.

The manager plans and coordinates international shipments with freight forwarders, shipping lines and clearing agents, governs HS tariff classification and customs compliance, and works with procurement, production and finance stakeholders to keep supply flowing in a manufacturing / FMCG environment.

Key Responsibilities

Manage end-to-end import and export shipping and customs clearing
Ensure compliance with South African customs and SARS requirements, including HS tariff classification
Coordinate freight forwarders, shipping lines and customs clearing agents; manage service performance
Plan shipments, documentation and timelines to support production and supply requirements
Resolve shipping and customs issues, delays and queries proactively
Engage internal stakeholders across procurement, supply chain, production and finance
Maintain shipping and customs records and reporting (SAP advantageous)

Required Qualifications

National Senior Certificate plus a diploma or degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, International Trade or related field
Minimum 5 years’ experience in shipping, customs clearing, freight forwarding or international logistics
Strong knowledge of South African customs and SARS requirements and HS tariff classifications
Experience working with freight forwarders, shipping lines and clearing agents
Strong planning, coordination, problem-solving, stakeholder-management and MS Office skills
SAP and manufacturing / FMCG / food & beverage experience advantageous
